New Book – Images of Peterborough

Peterborough was at one time the centre of the separate county of the Soke of Peterborough which contained thirty two towns. A Soke was an area which had the right of local jurisdiction. During its history Peterborough has been a part of Northamptonshire, Huntingdonshire, and finally Cambridgeshire.

Peterborough’s Cathedral is one of the finest Norman Cathedrals in England with a beautiful painted nave ceiling and is the final resting place of Catherine of Aragon a wife of King Henry VIII.

The city has a fine seventeenth century Guildhall in the centre of its former market place, and Customs House by the bridge over the River Nene.
